Why Power-Included Specifications Matter

Most optical flats are specified with power removed—meaning the actual total surface deviation can be significantly worse than advertised. Our specifications include all surface deviations, giving you true reference standards with conservative, trustworthy specifications.

Power-Removed Specifications (Industry Standard): Mathematical best-fit removes spherical curvature, making specs look better than actual surface.

Power-Included Specifications (Lunt Optics): Total surface deviation including any curvature—actual flatness as measured.

Result: Our classical pitch polishing produces inherently smooth surfaces. A typical λ/40 flat (power included) improves to approximately λ/60 residual irregularity after power removal—reflecting the naturally low surface roughness of our manufacturing process.
